In the State of Minnesota there is no longer a waiting period for a marriage license application. This means you should get it the same day that you apply for it as long as the Court is open. The license it self is good for 6 months. I do recommend that the couple wait until a month or two prior to the wedding to get the marriage license. This way if you have to postponed your wedding for any reason (I call this Life Events) you may not have to pay for another marriage license.
The easiest way to apply is to go to the county office website closest to you within the State of Minnesota and download the marriage application . Download and prefill out the application and print it off. This will save you a lot of time at the county office. ***Please note, not all counties will provide you with a certified copy of the license after it has been submitted to them. Please make sure you request a “certified copy”.
Fabulous news is that some counties allow you to submit your application online. St Louis County allows this, but I am not sure of other counties. Please check the county website.
