Wisconsin has a 3 day waiting period. You can have the waiting period waived for an additional charge. The marriage license is valid for 60 days. Couples between the ages of 16 and 18 must have written consent from their parents, custodian or guardians in order to get married. You will still need two witnesses.
Additionally you have to have the name/address of the officiant and date of marriage. Now for those of you who want to get married quickly and in the State of Wisconsin don’t worry. Just reach out and chat with us. We will help you figure it out.
There are no longer different options for residency vs non-resident. This simply means that you can get your marriage license from any county in the State of Wisconsin and it will be good for any location within the State of Wisconsin.
Of course, every county website will have this information, please go that website for detailed and up to date information. Here is a link to the State of Wisconsin County Clerks. That department usually handles the marriage licenses.
Last but not least, the couple will not automatically receive a certified copy of the Original Certificate of Marriage. Upon registration of the license/certificate worksheet document, the couple may purchase certified copies of their Original Certificate of Marriage. This is important because you will need a certified copy of your marriage certificate to add your partner to health insurance, banking information, credit cards, and changing your name for Social Security.
